Check Website for Details is a project that will occupy the Kuiper Projects gallery space intermittently from August – October 2019. This project will not culminate in the display of artworks in the gallery, but rather the project will be shared via a publication that documents the gallery activity. The resulting artworks will be experienced in locations that do not reside in the physical location of their production or physical display.
Check Website for Details engages with the changing conditions of exhibition practice, given the ubiquity of photographic-based documentation of artworks, and the accelerated distribution of these via increased access to both digital and print platforms. The central question of this project is: has the mediated experience of physical objects in space come to suffice as an experience of the artwork itself? This project will investigate methodological shifts that are occurring as a result of new technologies, placing emphasis on changes in the way artists make works. Focusing on themes of translation and proximity/distance, this project will reimagine the role of the physical gallery space in the production and distribution of artworks.
